In June 2015, Professor Andreas Herrmann, Academic Director of GSERM at the University of St.Gallen, contacted the then Slovenian Ministry of Culture and Science to seek a cooperation partner for summer schools in empirical research methods. Vesna Zabkar, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Ljubljana, quickly expressed the Faculty’s strong interest in collaborating with the University of St.Gallen and GSERM.
Following several phone calls, two rounds of discussions took place at the Faculty of Economics in September and December 2015. The joint collaboration began to take shape.
Although it was too late to implement the project in 2016—the year Ljubljana received the European Green Capital Award—the joint initiative was launched in August 2017 with the first GSERM Ljubljana, offering four courses in empirical research methods.
With the exception of 2020, when the program was cancelled due to COVID-19, a new edition of GSERM Ljubljana has taken place every year. The program was held remotely from January 2021 to January 2023 before returning to an in-person format in 2024.
GSERM is proud to co-organize and celebrate the 10th edition of the program in 2027 together with the University of Ljubljana’s School of Economics and Business.
